Privacy policy
Effective date: 31 July 2026. Applies to the SentenceWise apps for iOS and Android.
The short version: everything you put into SentenceWise stays on your phone. The apps collect nothing, transmit nothing, and make no network requests. There are no accounts, no analytics and no trackers. The Android app does not even hold the permission needed to use the internet.
What we collect
Nothing. The app has no server and sends no data anywhere — not to us, and not to anyone else. We receive no usage data, no crash reports, no identifiers and no analytics. There is nothing for us, or anyone we could partner with, to see.
What the app stores on your device
Everything you enter is stored only on your own device, protected by the platform's strongest storage:
| Data | Where | Protection |
|---|---|---|
| Your answers (role, country, stage), saved services, dates, readiness states, requests and settings | On your device only | iOS Keychain / Android encrypted preferences, with hardware-backed keys |
| Documents you add | App-private storage on your device | Encrypted at rest and excluded from backups |
| Optional app-lock PIN | On your device | Stored as a salted hash in the Keychain / encrypted preferences — the PIN itself is never stored |
Nothing in this table is transmitted anywhere, ever.
No accounts, no trackers, no analytics
The app works without an account, so there is nothing to sign up for, nothing to log into and no profile held about you anywhere. It contains no advertising, no third-party SDKs that phone home, no analytics and no tracking of any kind.
Reminders
Reminders are off by default. If you choose to turn one on, the notification shown on your lock screen uses only neutral wording — for example, “You have an appointment tomorrow.” It never repeats your own words and never reveals anything about your situation. Reminders are created and delivered entirely on your device.
External links
Some entries in the app link to outside websites, such as GOV.UK, a support service's own site, or the quick-exit weather page. Opening one of these hands over to your browser, which is outside the app and outside this policy. The browser and the sites you visit have their own privacy practices.
Deleting your data
In the app, go to My stuff → Erase everything. This is a deliberate two-step action, and it removes the profile, your documents, the PIN and any pending or delivered notifications from the device. Deleting the app removes the rest. If the app is ever installed again on the same device, it also purges any surviving keychain remnants on that fresh install.
What we can see
Nothing. There is no server, no dashboard, and no way for the maintainers to access anything you enter. The trade-off is honest: we also cannot recover your data if your phone is lost or broken. Use the encrypted export (when available) if you want your own backup.
Children and other users
The same rules apply to everyone who uses the app: nothing is collected from anyone, of any age. Content written to help explain things to children is intended to be shared by a supporting adult.
If something goes wrong
Because no personal data leaves the device, a data breach in the classic sense would require a compromise of the software supply chain or of the device itself. Any incident that could affect users' data or safety is handled under the project's published governance process and, where UK GDPR applies to the CIC's own operations (for example consent-based research data, which is held entirely separately from the app and never linked to it — the app has no usage data to link), it is assessed for notification to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) within 72 hours.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date, and the policy remains reachable from inside the app. Because the app collects nothing, any change could only ever be to add clarity — a change that started collecting data would be a change to the app itself and would be stated plainly, in advance, in the app's release notes.
